Finca Soledad – Biodiversity Farm

Biodiversity is nature’s favor with a farm. Thanks to the climate, soil and diverse flora and fauna, the growing area can be suitable for many different types of trees, which is the cradle of development that creates a rich flavor for coffee beans. Finca Soledad is the farm bestowed by mother nature. It has made good use of its strengths to create irreplaceable values on the flavor track.

Finca Soledad was discovered by accident

Finca Soledad in Valle De Intag, Imbabura, an enclave of Ecuador, is owned by Pepe and his father. From the very beginning, Pepe was not a coffee person, he was a psychologist by profession. In the process of climbing, and exploring the vast nature, Pepe discovered that Finca Soledad brought her peace and decided to buy this land in 2010 while working for the Red Cross. in Ecuador. He fell in love with the beauty of the valley surrounded by the restored forest. After a few years, Pepe found coffee and gradually turned it into his love and passion. He considers supporting the development of Ecuador as a working motivation as well as a mission to be carried out.

Instead of being studied and learned in advance, Pepe bonded with Finca Soledad as naturally as how people who were destined to come together.

Finca Soledad - Ethical Farm

Not only interested in the seeds, but Finca Soledad also ensures the standard of living and stability for farmers. Pepe has created jobs for locals and helped them recover from the damage of the mining industry by hiring them to grow coffee. Working on the farm are mainly female farmers, women who have difficulty finding work (especially single mothers) are now able to generate income to support themselves and their families. family.

The farmer is last in the chain of benefits with low wages and poor working conditions. Many places still have poor and difficult living conditions. Pepe and Finca Soledad create livelihoods so that farmers can safely cultivate and improve their material lives.

Besides people, Finca Soledad also cares about the natural environment and diverse ecosystems. During the cultivation process, the staff at the farm all try their best to create conditions for the diverse ecosystem to develop, they believe that it is also very important in creating the magical notes of coffee.

Traditionally, Intag is not the area for coffee production but for extraction. But Pepe made a difference. This farm is geographically located relatively close to the border of Colombia and the province of Nariño, located 50 km northwest of the capital Quito on the Andean slopes. Finca Soledad is located at an altitude of 1,515 meters above sea level, surrounded by high mountains, endemic tree species in a high biological equilibrium, cool Intag river. Finca Soledad's area is 120ha, but it is not used all to grow coffee. The farm only grows coffee on 4 hectares of land with 3 types: Sidra, Gesha and Mejorado. The remaining area is a dense canopy of forest above the clouds, where sugarcane was produced once. As a result, it preserves biodiversity. Perhaps that's why the coffee beans here have many free and rich notes of incense.

The coffee production here is semi-organic, Pepe and the farmers understand the need and focus on listening to nature instead of focusing on copying processes.

These things have made the batches of coffee standard, with a fruity, refreshing and bold flavor of home. Although you have never been to Ecuador, never set foot on the green land and the coolness of the clouds at Finca Soledad, we believe you can feel it through the cups of coffee coming from the farm. This.
