Through the paper filter, all the sediment layers are retained above and all the essence flows down the stream, giving people the experience of a clear, light brown cup of coffee. With the ingredients being just coffee and water, the extraction is simply the impact of pouring speed and the earth's gravity, so the finished product you feel is the subtle nuances that only belong to specialty coffee. . Maximum preparation time is 5 - 6 minutes and using water heated to 97 - 100 degrees Celsius promotes the compounds in coffee powder to react strongly with each other. Acid, caffeine and a number of main compounds that make up the flavor of coffee, which are quite difficult to dissolve, are promoted and transformed by high temperature, helping the cup of coffee, although light, still have a rich flavor unique to the place of growth.

What do you need when making specialty coffee with the V60?

A complete set of tools to start making specialty coffee with the V60 including funnel, filter paper, gooseneck water dispenser, grinder, pour pot, scale and timer (can be replaced by phone).

When it comes to the V60 funnel, you should use one that is made of high-quality plastic. Because it does not retain heat, the plastic funnel can maintain a more stable water temperature when mixing. With filter paper, you should also choose one that has good heat retention and is thin enough so that your coffee can absorb well. The filter paper set that XLIII Coffee uses belongs to Cafec company, refined from environmentally friendly pure paper pulp. The filter uses new Fine-Grained technology to increase the surface area of the paper, plasticity, elasticity and permeability to help the coffee layer flow down easily. Cafec paper also has a “double-sided crepe” that helps keep a layer of air between the paper and the dropper so the water flows more evenly. Additionally, the V60 works best with gooseneck kettles and scales with built-in timers. Because coffee techniques all require pouring and adjusting weight and timing accurately.

Golden ratio for brewing specialty coffee with V60

Coffee brewing ratio is the ratio of the amount of coffee and water used. Weight-based formula can be applied to mix any quantity. The more coffee you use, the stronger the flavor will be. But adding more coffee does not necessarily create the desired flavor. The golden ratio for a cup of coffee is the formula for the most balanced cup of coffee with a ratio of 1:18 (1 part coffee and 18 parts water). Based on this ratio, you can calculate and reduce it to suit your friend's taste. For example, if you want a richer, more pronounced coffee flavor, use a ratio of 1:15. If you want a lighter, brighter cup of coffee, you can increase the amount of water used in the ratio.

Here are some methods to help you quickly find the right amount of coffee to grind:

Adjust according to the amount of water:

If you want to brew a specific cup of coffee, divide that amount by the desired coffee concentration to find out how many grams of coffee you need. A standard cup of coffee holds 10oz (283g) of water. Divide that number by your desired ratio, such as 1:17, to determine how much coffee you need to grind: 283/17 = 16.5. So you will need to weigh and grind 16.5 grams of coffee.

Adjust according to the amount of coffee:

If you want to brew a certain amount of coffee, multiply that number by your ratio to find out how much water you need. For example, if you start with 30 grams of coffee, multiply that number by 15 (1:15 ratio) if you want a strong coffee. 30 x 15 = 450 grams of water needed.
