Group head
The group head is a crucial component of a Shot (Espresso) machine. It is the part where hot, pressurized water flows into the portafilter, extracting coffee.
In Specialty Coffee, the group head maintains a stable water temperature, which directly affects the final flavor of the coffee. If the water is too cool, the coffee tends to taste overly acidic. On the other hand, excessively high temperatures can lead to a bitter flavor profile.
There are five common types of group heads: Electrically Heated, Conventional, Saturated, Lever, and E61. Each type has a different mechanism for regulating temperature, suitable for different machines and brewing styles in the world of Specialty Coffee.
