Maragogype
Maragogype is a rare Arabica coffee variety first discovered in 1870 in the city of Maragogipe, Bahia, northeastern Brazil. Today, it is cultivated across various parts of Latin America.
Highly regarded in the specialty coffee world, Maragogype is celebrated for its refined and distinctive flavor profile. When grown at optimal altitudes and in suitable soil conditions, it can develop rich flavor notes such as chocolate, honey, dried fruits, and floral undertones.
However, cultivating Maragogype requires meticulous care, as the plant has low productivity and is vulnerable to pests and diseases. These challenges make it a rare and highly valued coffee in the specialty market. Roasters and baristas often need to fine-tune their roasting and brewing techniques to fully unlock the potential of this exceptional variety.
