Piccolo Latte
Piccolo Latte is a milk-based coffee originating from Australia, typically served in a small glass of about 90–120 ml (3–4 oz). With a common coffee-to-milk ratio of 1:3 or 1:4, this drink offers a smooth, mild flavor with a subtle sweetness.
In the specialty coffee world, the Shot (Espresso) used in a Piccolo Latte is often pulled from high-quality Arabica beans that meet SCA standards. Additionally, the steamed milk is usually kept at a lower temperature than in a traditional latte, preserving the delicate coffee notes.
Despite its popularity in Australia, the Piccolo Latte remains relatively rare on café menus elsewhere. One of the main reasons is that it is often mistaken for other milk-based coffees, such as the Latte or Cappuccino, leading to confusion among customers.
