TR4
TR4 is a Robusta coffee variety developed through seed propagation and selective breeding in Vietnam since 2005. It is well-suited to the climate and soil conditions of the Central Highlands region. This variety is notable for its strong resistance to coffee leaf rust, excellent drought tolerance, and vigorous growth.
In terms of productivity and quality, TR4 delivers high yields of 7–10 tons per hectare, with large, uniform beans, minimal defects, and a bean-to-cherry ratio of approximately 4.1:1. It also has a high proportion of Grade 1 beans (around 70%) and a caffeine content of 1.68g per 100g, indicating its potential for improving quality within the Robusta segment.
While TR4 is not classified as a Specialty Coffee, it plays an important role in the quality coffee ecosystem—especially when cultivated, harvested, and processed under high standards. It represents a promising option in the effort to elevate Vietnamese Robusta on the global coffee map.
