GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIROMENT

At an altitude of 2000m above sea level, the coffee gardens supplying Genji Challa enjoy ideal climatic conditions. The interplay between altitude, climate, and the diverse ecosystem of the nearby forest creates a perfect environment for coffee trees to thrive, accumulating unique flavors in each cherry.

THE PATH TO COFFEE

Kefyalew Deressa’s coffee journey began as an intriguing coincidence. From his position as a waiter at Central Jimma Hotel, he was discovered by a Penagos representative and invited to become a technician. Over time, Kefyalew not only became the exclusive distributor for Penagos but also expanded his business to other equipment and supplies for the coffee industry. Three years ago, he decided to acquire the washing station in Gera, marking a turning point in his coffee career.

PROCESS AND QUALITY

At Genji Challa, two main coffee varieties are cultivated: 74110 and 74165. The wet processing method is meticulously applied, resulting in coffee beans with distinctive flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, and orange. Not stopping there, Kefyalew boldly experiments with anaerobic processing, demonstrating a spirit of continuous innovation. The superior quality of the product is evidenced by its impressive export price of $13.5 USD/kg.

VISION AND DEVELOPMENT

Genji Challa is more than just an ordinary coffee washing station. Under Kefyalew’s leadership, it is becoming a model for sustainable development in the East Africa’s coffee industry. By combining advanced technology with extensive industry experience, Genji Challa is gradually elevating the quality of Jimm area’s coffee on the world specialty coffee map. With a long-term vision and commitment to constant improvement, Genji Challa promises to continue being a source of inspiration for the local coffee industry and to deliver exceptional cups of coffee to coffee lovers everywhere.
