Unique location of Nueva Alianza farm

Nueva Allianza Farm, a Dwight family-owned agricultural enterprise, draws inspiration from the collaborative spirit among its members and the aspiration to produce top-notch coffee lots. Situated in the Santa Teresa district of La Convención province, Cusco, the farm’s elevation ranges between 1,800 to 1,900 meters above sea level. Nature has endowed this locale with a favorable climate, sandy soil enriched with organic matter, and an ecological environment ideally suited for the cultivation of coffee. The area boasts a 60% shade coverage, provided by trees such as Avocado, Pacae, banana, pumarosa, lemon, orange, and tangerine, strategically planted on terraced slopes with a gradient of nearly 45%.

Spanning a total of 8 hectares, Nueva Allianza Farm cultivates various coffee varieties, including Costa Rica 95, Gran Colombia, Typica Mejorado, two Gesha types (red and yellow), Pacamara, and Marigyoppe. Over the course of 20 years, the farm’s dedicated managers have concentrated on preserving the distinctive character and profile of each coffee batch. Currently, the farm’s annual harvest yields approximately 213 bags of 69kg each, meeting the stringent standards required for export.

Founder - Dwight Aguilar Masías

Dwight Aguilar Masías, the proprietor of Nueva Alianza Farm, represents the third generation of coffee producers hailing from Santa Teresa, La Convencion, Cusco. Having earned the prestigious this region’s Cup of Excellence twice, he is widely acknowledged as one of premier coffee cultivators. The coffee tradition in Aguilar Masías’ family dates back to his grandparents in the nineties, fostering his deep-rooted passion for coffee. His father, Timoteo Aguilar, a skilled coffee artisan, played a pivotal role in instilling this love from a tender age, motivating Dwight to strive for excellence and recognition within the specialty coffee industry.

Commencing his journey in coffee at the age of 16 in 2001, Aguilar Masías now boasts an impressive 23 years of experience, with 8 years dedicated specifically to producing exceptional coffee. Alongside learning from his father, he immersed himself in his coffee passion, dedicating his time to continuous learning, knowledge cultivation, and active participation in competitions at local, district, and neighboring provincial levels. In 2009, driven by familial encouragement and a fervent desire to excel in the coffee realm, Aguilar Masías journeyed to Villarica, Pasco Department—acknowledged as prime coffee-producing region—to further his expertise.

In 2010, Dwight Aguilar Masías, in collaboration with his father, undertook the task of enhancing production on Nueva Alianza Farm. Armed with technological insights, advanced sustainable farming methods, and an unwavering determination to become an exemplary coffee producer, they set out to conquer the world of specialty coffee.

Nueva Alianza farm is dedicated to sustainable coffee production

Coffee is a tradition, a passion that has been passed down to reach the level of the country, and is also the family’s main source of economic income. Therefore, Dwight family members and their associates always focus on improving coffee quality and make efforts to maintain and develop the farm sustainably.

The farm uses a selective harvesting process and grinds the coffee before pre-fermenting it for 24 hours. The 48-hour anaerobic fermentation process is guaranteed to take place immediately after the beans are shelled to ensure optimal freshness. The coffee is then washed and bed-dried in a solar dryer for 20 days, creating a unique red fruit shape and the most vibrant flavor.

Besides, each member focuses on preserving and developing the natural ecosystem in and around the coffee-growing area. They apply organic agricultural methods to protect soil and enhance biological productivity. Farmers on the farm are guided to make the most of natural conditions reasonably, limiting negative impacts on the environment. They also continuously practice responsible, sustainable work and can thoroughly trace their products to consumers and meet international specialty coffee standards.

In 2017, Nueva Alianza farm invested in small batch production so that young baristas could participate in different championships. In 2018, Nueva Alianza’s coffee lots participated in the Cup of Excellence and won the championship cup for the first time. Not stopping there, this farm’s coffee continued to compete in the Cup of Excellence seasons and reached 9th place in 2019, and 10th place in 2020. After that, thanks to persistent improvement in the farming process, processing, and processing, the farm’s coffee lots won the championship cup again in 2021.

Since then, Nueva Alianza farm has continuously invested and developed to maintain the increasingly outstanding quality of specialty coffee. Dwight Aguilar Masías also said he will continue his passion for coffee until God allows and always leave a legacy for his children and family.
