Immersion
Immersion is a coffee brewing method where ground coffee is fully submerged in hot water for a set period, allowing for a complete extraction of flavors.
In Specialty Coffee, this method highlights the natural sweetness and balance of the brew. Popular immersion techniques such as French Press, Siphon, and AeroPress each have different steeping times, which influence the coffee’s clarity and texture.
Immersion brewing allows for a rich and diverse flavor extraction and is relatively easy to perform. However, controlling the extraction process can be challenging—if the steeping time is too long, it can lead to excessive bitterness. Additionally, some methods may leave coffee sediment in the cup, affecting the final drinking experience.
