Long Black
Long Black is a popular coffee beverage in Australia and New Zealand and is a variation of Americano but with a volume of approximately 150–200 ml.
Unlike an Americano, a Long Black is made by pouring one or two shots of shot (espresso) over 120–150 ml of hot water. This method helps preserve the crema, resulting in a richer and more intense flavor. Thanks to the lower water-to-espresso ratio and its distinctive pouring technique, this drink offers a well-balanced experience while maintaining the coffee’s original character.
This coffee is typically made with hot—but not boiling—water, ensuring it reaches an ideal drinking temperature immediately while preventing excessive bitterness and preserving flavor complexity. In specialty coffee, a Long Black uses high-quality Arabica beans that meet SCA standards, showcasing vibrant acidity, nuanced flavors, and a lingering aftertaste.
