Charrieriana
Charrieriana (Coffea charrieriana) is a wild plant species belonging to the Coffea genus, first discovered and described in Cameroon (Central Africa) in 2008.
Its most prominent genetic characteristic is the lack of the necessary enzymes to synthesize caffeine. As a result, its beans are naturally and completely caffeine-free.
The scientific significance of C. charrieriana is extremely important. It provides a valuable gene source for breeding programs, opening up the potential to create commercial caffeine-free coffee varieties without the need for artificial decaffeination processes.
