Kivuensis
Kivuensis (Coffea kivuensis) is a wild plant species belonging to the Coffea genus, discovered and identified in the Kivu region (named after Lake Kivu) of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Its ecological characteristic is that it grows naturally at high altitudes. Because it is not cultivated or processed, this species has no commercial flavor profile. Research samples describe its taste as very “green,” akin to grass or raw leaves, and completely lacking in sweetness or fruit notes.
The scientific significance of C. kivuensis lies in its value for biodiversity conservation. As a relative of commercial coffee, it is part of the natural gene pool, potentially holding valuable adaptive genes for the future.
