Mundo Novo
The 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐨 variety originates from Brazil and was first discovered in 1943 in the São Paulo region. It is the result of cross-pollination between the Bourbon and Typica varieties. Today, Mundo Novo accounts for about 40% of Brazil’s coffee cultivation area and is also very popular in many other South American countries.
Known for its strong resilience and yielding approximately 30% more than Bourbon, Mundo Novo also boasts excellent coffee quality with low acidity and a full-bodied flavor. Although its cherries mature later and require a longer harvesting period, Mundo Novo is still regarded as a promising variety within the Specialty Coffee industry.
Belonging to the Bourbon-Typica genetic group, Mundo Novo is praised for its vigorous growth and its ability to clearly express flavor profiles when grown at high elevations. In high-altitude regions, this variety produces coffee beans with rich, balanced, and approachable flavors, delivering a smooth and mellow sensation on the palate—qualities that contribute to its distinctive Specialty Coffee value.
