SLN 9
SLN 9 is an Arabica hybrid developed by the Central Coffee Research Institute of India, bred from S.795, a renowned high-quality Arabica variety closely associated with Indian coffee heritage. This variety is processed using both Washed and Natural methods: Washed highlights its bright acidity and clean cup, while Natural enhances creamy texture and brings out more complex fermented notes.
In terms of plant characteristics, SLN 9 is tall in stature with a broad canopy, drooping branches, and large dark green leaves. Its cherries are large, elongated-round in shape, turning deep red when fully ripe. In the cup, SLN 9 presents an impressive layered sensory profile: bright raspberry and lemon zest in the opening, followed by warm butterscotch, chocolate, and caramel through the mid-palate, intertwined with delicate jasmine florals. The finish is sweet, wine-like, and notably lingering.
Within the specialty coffee community, SLN 9 is often regarded as one of India’s most impressive Arabica varieties, earning an average score of 4.11 out of 5.0 from roasters.
