Zanguebariae
Coffea zanguebariae is a wild coffee species native to East Africa, regarded as the close “genetic sister” of Coffea racemosa.
Although rarely cultivated commercially, this species has drawn significant attention from researchers and specialty coffee enthusiasts for its distinctive flavor profile – a complex harmony of herbal, eucalyptus, licorice, lavender, jasmine, dark chocolate, and cardamom notes.
Despite its low yield and small bean size, Coffea zanguebariae carries valuable genetic traits, offering promising potential for the development of future specialty coffee varieties with lower caffeine content, greater flavor complexity, and enhanced resilience to harsh climates.
