Racemosa
Coffea racemosa is one of the three coffee species alongside Arabica and Canephora (Robusta), yet it is the rarest (accounting for only 0.001% of global production) and is found mainly along the coasts of Mozambique and South Africa.
An interesting point is that due to its very small beans (about one-third the size of Arabica) and extremely low yield (a single tree produces only around 100g of cherries per year), roasters often have to use a stethoscope to listen for the first crack to ensure the beans do not get stuck in the roaster’s gaps. In terms of sensory profile, Racemosa offers a multi-layered and distinctive cupping experience: from spice aromas such as clove, cinnamon, and licorice to dark fruit notes like blackcurrant and cassis.
Coffea racemosa truly embodies “rare coffee” – not only for its scarcity, but also as a refreshing new inspiration for the specialty coffee community, where unique flavors and singular stories are often the most compelling elements.
