Liberica
Liberica is a coffee variety native to West Africa, now primarily grown in lowland tropical regions of Asia, including the Philippines, Malaysia, and India. The plant is notably tall, bearing large fruits and asymmetrical beans.
Liberica thrives at altitudes between 0 and 1,000 meters, adapting well to hot, humid climates. It is resistant to pests and drought-tolerant. While its caffeine content is lower than both Arabica and Robusta, it offers a bold flavor profile with distinctive notes of dark chocolate, hazelnut, and smoke.
Historically, Liberica was considered a potential substitute for Arabica in regions where Arabica struggled to grow. However, due to its intense and often overpowering flavor, it has yet to gain widespread popularity among specialty coffee enthusiasts.
