Cross
Cross is the process of intentional pollination between two parent individuals (often of different varieties or species) that possess selected genetic traits.
The hallmark of this technique is the recombination of genetic material. The goal is for the offspring (the F1 generation) to inherit and combine the elite genes from both parents, creating new traits or hybrid vigor.
For example, the Mundo Novo variety is believed to be the result of a natural cross between the Typica and Bourbon varieties in Brazil, combining the yield potential of both.
