Cafe Granja La Esperanza overcomes difficulties to create quality specialty coffee beans

With a high score requirement on the SCA scale, cultivating specialty coffee beans has never been easy. This difficult plant may not be suitable for the climate, soil and other conditions of the farm. At that time, the planting area has two choices: give up or try many times more. Cafe Granja La Esperanza chose the second path, overcoming the mismatch between specialty coffee and Colombia’s soil conditions to produce high-quality coffee varieties. Perhaps that is why the coffee beans from Cafe Granja La Esperanza always bring something burning like the enthusiasm and determination of the people here.

Cafe Granja La Esperanza is large with many different farms

Cafe Granja La Esperanza was established in 1945 after Juan Antonio decided to grow 3 more Typica coffee varieties different from the current type: yellow Bourbon, red Bourbon and Caturra. After many years of hard work, research, dedication with a passion for coffee beans, the farm has operated very effectively and obtained initial achievements on the road to creating the reputation it is today.

Cafe Granja La Esperanza farm consists of 5 farms: CERRO AZUL, LAS MARGARITAS, LA ESPERANZA, POTOSÍ, HAWAII. Each place has its own conditions suitable for different coffee varieties.

Among them, the Cerro Azul farm in Trujillo has always been loyal to a single coffee – Gesha coffee.

Cafe Granja La Esperanza overcomes difficulties in creating quality specialty coffee beans

The turning point in the development of Cafe Granja La Esperanza

A new era in the history of Granja La Esperanza began when Don Rigoberto – son of Juan Antonio brought Gesha to Colombia. The Colombian geisha first came to Café Granja La Esperanza through the Carleida state farm located next to  Boquete’s La Esmeralda. The best seeds of the Panama farm were sown in test plots on three of Colombia’s volcanic ranges. Subsequently, high-quality Geisha bushes were bred in commercial plots in the Trujillo and Caicedonia regions.

Although not all, Gesha has greatly contributed to bringing the name of Cafe Granja La Esperanza further. Currently, this farm is known as a place specializing in the production and commercialization of specialty coffees.

To become famous, Cafe Granja La Esperanza has to overcome many difficulties

Although known and trusted by many roasters because of the standard coffee beans, the farm faces great challenges in farming because the coffee varieties are difficult to match and harmonize with the climate and soil conditions of Colombia. In order to overcome these unsuitable things, the staff at the farm had to research and experiment a lot.

Not only in terms of planting, quality coffee growing areas also face barriers in the way of trade and business when they have to overcome many competitors in the same industry around the world. But these difficulties also play a part in raising the SCA scores of coffee beans. As a result, the coffee profile from Cafe Granja La Esperanza is recognized and appreciated by the whole industry and consumers.

Without the support and support of nature, researchers here must regularly monitor the quality of coffee in the laboratory at each stage of the coffee bean. Combined with that is the transfer of knowledge and production practices to affiliated suppliers to ensure that the scores of the beans are 84 points or higher. Cafe Granja La Esperanza guarantees a unique flavor profile of each coffee bean, even being able to exclusively create profiles according to customer requirements.

Not resting on its achievements, Cafe Granja La Esperanza is constantly improving, looking for ways to make a difference.

Nueva Alianza Pacamara #4733 – The essence of Cusco with elegant jasmine notes

Nueva Alianza Pacamara #4733 is a testament to the miraculous terroir and dedicated cultivation of the renowned Cusco region. The combination of the characteristic Pacamara bean size and ideal altitude has forged a flavor profile of immense sophistication and depth. From the very first moment, this lot captivates with its elegant jasmine notes, radiating a gentle, pure fragrance akin to a flower blooming in the morning dew.

Nueva Alianza Orange Gesha #4737 – An expedition of recessive genetic traits into the sensory realm

In a world of authenticity, Nueva Alianza Orange Gesha #4737 represents the proud emergence of rare biological traits often obscured by nature’s universality. Carrying a recessive genetic code, Lot #4737 embarks on an “expedition” into the connoisseur’s mind, where record-breaking fructose concentrations are released to perfectly fill every sensory gap with absolute smoothness and purity.

Through washed processing and extremely-light roasting, vibrant citrus nuances and ethereal floral notes, once hidden deep within the genetic structure, now manifest with power, transforming the tasting experience into a journey of ontological completion, where the rarity of recessive genes finally reigns supreme in flavor.

Nueva Alianza Maragogipe #4735 – The “Giant” at the center of attention

Amidst a world of countless specialty coffee beans, Nueva Alianza Maragogipe #4735 emerges as a symbol of grandeur, instantly commanding attention with its distinct appearance. Affectionately dubbed the “Giant” for its impressively mutated “Elephant Bean” size, lot #4735 from Nueva Alianza stands as a testament to nature’s wonders in the Cusco region. Yet, its true allure extends far beyond its imposing exterior; hidden within these colossal beans lies a gentle “soul” blooming with pure floral and crystalline fruit notes.

Nueva Alianza Sidra #4736 – The sweetness born from the resilience of the Andes

Unlike the airy aromatic layers so often encountered, a cup of Nueva Alianza Sidra #4736 takes command of the palate through a distinctly physical sense of “weight” the creamy richness of Blueberry Yogurt and the dense, syrupy sweetness of a spoonful of Berry Jam. This shimmering, viscous body, achieved through the traditional Natural process, is the compressed result of the harsh cold currents that sweep across the Andes at 1,820 meters above sea level. At a deeper level, the sheer weight carried within this cup becomes a beautiful metaphor for the iron discipline and resilience of producer Dwight Aguilar Masías  a man who has spent his entire life holding his ground, protecting an inherited landscape against the brutal upheavals of time and circumstance.

Ziriguidum #2 – A Proud Rhythm from the Heart of the Cerrado Savanna

In the native language of Brazil, Ziriguidum is an onomatopoeia capturing the powerful, frenetic rhythm of Samba percussion. Yet, as the namesake for the Ziriguidum #2 – Masterpieces Auction 2025 lot, this rhythm takes on a quieter, more profound meaning. It perfectly encapsulates a beautiful natural paradox: the flourishing of the fragile, caffeine-deficient Laurina variety amidst the harsh, arid expanse of the Cerrado savanna.

Rejecting all artificial fermentation techniques, producer Daterra Coffee preserves this pure genetic code through a meticulous Natural process, guided only by the primal sun. To taste Ziriguidum #2 is not merely to experience a sparkling flavor profile; it is an exploration of nature’s resilience, ecological restoration, and the absolute pinnacle of artisanal craft.
